Tinazzi & Fraglia Vela Malcesine: a partnership that is sailing smoothly!

What do wine and the sailing worlds have in common?

If you think of Lake Garda, of course then you’ll also think of the wine and sailing tradition, but it is not just a question of geography. We in fact think that the two worlds also share a concept of respect and love for the territory and, most of all, of enjoying its fruits during light-hearted and and joyous occasions.

That is why, our partnership established with the Fraglia Vela sailing centre in Malcesine (VR) in 2022 will also continue in 2023.

The company was set up in 1947, and was the first sailing centre in Verona and the second ‘fraglia’ on Lake Garda after the one in Riva del Garda established set up before the war.

A group of friends came up with the idea right after the end of the Second World War – they yearned for freedom and the return to lovely relaxing activities.

The first sailing schools in Malcesine was set up in 1967 and, in 1972, two athletes even took part in the Munich Olympics. Many yachtsmen would then to go on to win in major competitions.

In the meantime, many national and international regattas were organized by Fraglia in which leading global yachtsmen took part, confirming that Fraglia is a “place born for sailing”.

On the occasion of gala dinners, aperitifs on the shores of the lake and award ceremonies, the Tinazzi cellar is proud to delight yachstmen with its wine production.

Below is a list of the regattas sponsored by Tinazzi in 2023:

  • 21-24 June Grado 1 Dragoni
  • 26 June – 5 July Foiling Week
  • 14-16 July 2023 J/70 CUP
  • 27 July – 4 August H-Boat World Championship
  • 13 August Regata Sociale
  • 31 August – 3 September TF35 Malcesine CUP1

Some of the most representative wines will be present, including:

Pinot Grigio vinified separately and obtained from grapes on the hilly Garda hinterland, 150 m above sea level. Boasting greenish highlights that distinguish themselves from the straw-yellow colour, it stands out thanks to the pleasant aroma of white flowers and fruits and its elegance and freshness on the palate. Istà is an excellent white wine that pairs off well with any aperitif.

For this rosé wine, we use Corvina and Rondinella grapes from the Bardolino hills. The process is meticolous and starts with an immediate soft pressing of the grapes, thanks to which we obtain the subtle pearly pink colour that characterises this wine. The aroma is instead deep and reminiscent of red fruits, especially raspberry and wild cherry. Soft, fresh and lively on the palate. It expresses its full potential paired with fish courses.

Produced from classic local Verona grapes (Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella), this red wine is characterised by a bright red colour denoting its youth. Deep aroma with hints of ripe cherry. Fresh and harmonious on the palate with soft silky tannins.

It pairs off perfectly with both first courses and meat dishes.

What else is there to add? Our best wishes for a dazzling sailing season… “Fair Winds!”
